The big news with Visio 2000–as with most newly refurbished business applications from recent years–is the increased Internet connectivity possible in the new edition. Visio, a program that lets you graphically and visually represent ideas, offers VML (Vector Markup Language) to images from within the tool. In turn, you can easily import those marked-up pieces into Web documents. (Visio 2000 also supports JPG and GIF, formats that are probably easier to work in for most Web veterans.)
For business workstations based on Microsoft products, Visio easily integrates into each user’s environment and existing applications. You can edit Visio objects inside Microsoft applications (such as Word), although it’s easier to edit within the Visio interface. As for the technology itself, the simple click-and-drag SmartShapes technology means that even timid users can be up and running in five minutes.
